The Czech Republic is seeing rapid wage growth: what does this mean for the local economy?
Average salaries in the Czech Republic rose by 7.8% in the second quarter of 2025. Economists note that the growth in income is linked to high demand for skilled workers and economic recovery, but it may increase inflationary pressure. Find out what consequences the rapid rise in wages has for the Czech economy and its residents
Average incomes of employees in the Czech Republic are showing record growth rates. According to the Czech Statistical Office, salaries increased by 7.8% in the second quarter of 2025, reaching CZK 49,402 (approximately UAH 97,300). At the same time, real growth, taking into account inflation, was 5.3%, which is significantly higher than analysts' forecasts, according to Czechia Online.

Salaries are rising in all sectors
Economists note that the increase is observed not only among highly qualified specialists, but also in mass professions. The median salary — an indicator that reflects the income of half of all employees — also rose to 41,115 korunas (about 81,000 hryvnias). This signals that the growth in income has affected broad segments of the population.

Why the growth exceeded forecasts
The main factors were:
▪️ high demand for skilled workers, especially in the service and construction sectors;
▪️ a shortage of workers, which is pushing employers to increase their offers;
▪️ a general economic recovery after a period of decline.
According to economist Petr Dufek, such a rapid increase in wages could trigger price increases, especially in the service sector, where companies are trying to compensate for increased costs.

What this means for the economy
Experts warn that such a rapid increase in incomes could put additional pressure on inflation. The Czech National Bank has already signalled its intention to monitor the situation closely to prevent an ‘inflationary spiral’ from developing.
However, for most Czech families, the current wage growth means a recovery in purchasing power, which fell sharply during the period of high inflation in 2022–2023.
