This fall, Lviv will welcome another tourist attraction—an observation deck on the western tower of the Lviv Organ Hall. This is a historic event, as this part of the building has never been accessible to visitors in its more than 400 years of existence. Taras Demko, director of the Lviv Organ Hall, spoke about the opening in a comment to LVIV.MEDIA.

When will the observation deck in Lviv open?

According to Taras Demko, the first visitors will be able to climb the tower, which is over 40 meters high, on September 14, 2025. The first tours will take place at 3:00 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 5:00 p.m.

Groups will be small, with 10 people each, so that visitors can comfortably enjoy the panorama. Registration will open on September 8-9 on the official social media pages of the organ hall. At first, the platform will operate in test mode, and later it will become a permanent part of Lviv's tourist routes.

History of the Lviv Organ Hall building

Today's organ hall is located in a building that was originally the Church of St. Mary Magdalene. Construction of the temple began in the early 17th century, between 1600 and 1612, on the site of an old wooden church. In the 19th century, two towers were added to the building, which had a defensive purpose and were used as bell towers.

In the 1960s, the church was rebuilt into the organ hall of the Mykola Lysenko Lviv Conservatory. Since then, the building has become one of the city's cultural centers, hosting concerts, festivals, and rehearsals by leading ensembles.

Taras Demko emphasizes that until now, only technical workers have climbed the tower. It is open to tourists for the first time, and the views from a height of over 40 meters can be called unique: Lviv appears from a completely different angle.

What is special about the observation deck of the Lviv Organ Hall?

The new deck is special not only for its views. Visitors climbing to the top will be able to hear the music playing in the hall: concerts, organ rehearsals, performances by the Gomin choir and the Luhansk Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. Thus, the tour will combine impressions of architecture, panoramic views of Lviv, and live music.

Renovation and preparation of the tower for opening

A lot of work had to be done to make the tower safe for tourists. During the renovation, the stairs and shutters were restored, the old wooden floors and beams were reinforced, and the interior walls were repaired.

"We had a difficult task ahead of us because it is a very old tower. The challenge was also that there are many wooden floors and beams, and it was quite dangerous there. It was in very poor condition. But we restored the stairs and shutters and repaired the walls inside. Now it is safe, clean, and beautiful," says Demko.

Lviv is a city known for its atmospheric streets, cafes, churches, and architecture from different eras. Now, the opportunity to see the city from a new height will be added to this list.

For guests and residents of the city, this is a great opportunity to discover familiar streets in a new way. And for tourists coming from other cities in Ukraine or from abroad, this platform will become another “point of attraction” in the city of Lviv.
