The capital is considering officially allowing taxi services to operate during curfew hours. Three of the largest passenger transport operators — Bolt, Uklon, and Uber — have submitted a joint request to the city authorities. Currently, the Kyiv City Military Administration and law enforcement agencies are working on options for creating a transparent mechanism that would allow residents to use taxis at night while ensuring the safety of the capital.

Taxi service at night in Kyiv: will it be allowed?

Kyiv City State Administration head Timur Tkachenko confirmed that the administration had received official requests from leading taxi services. According to him, during the curfew, city residents do indeed face transportation problems. According to statistics, this applies to critical infrastructure workers and people who need to get to hospitals, train stations, or airports at night.

Tkachenko stressed that the authorities are aware of these needs, but the priority remains the safety of the city and control over the situation. That is why, even if permission to move around is granted, it will only be valid within the legal framework, without “gray schemes” and illegal passes.

“We understand people's needs, but I want to emphasize: the safety of the capital is paramount. Any ‘gray schemes,’ illegal passes, and the black market for night taxis will be eliminated,” he said.

How can taxis operate at night?

According to the head of the Kyiv City State Administration, consultations are currently underway with the military and law enforcement agencies regarding the possible format for taxi operations. The idea is to create a system that will allow transportation only according to officially approved rules.

Therefore, the possible opening of night taxis in Kyiv will not mean complete freedom of movement during curfew. It will be a limited and controlled mechanism aimed primarily at meeting the basic needs of residents.

So far, there is no final decision on whether taxis will be allowed to operate during curfew. However, any changes will be announced officially.
