A trip to Poland is one of the most popular destinations for Ukrainians, both for short visits and long-term stays. Is medical insurance mandatory for crossing the border with Poland?

Yes, in most cases, medical insurance is mandatory for entering Poland — especially if you are entering the country on a visa, under a visa-free regime, or plan to stay in Poland for a long time.

When you may be asked for insurance at the border:

▪️ when entering under a visa-free regime (under the Schengen Agreement),

▪️ when applying for a national visa (type D),

▪️ when submitting documents for temporary protection, a voivodeship invitation, a residence card,

▪️ during border controls or checks within the country.

You can get medical insurance for Poland online in a few minutes — no need to visit an office or deal with unnecessary paperwork. We recommend using Visit Ukraine, which offers convenient online insurance for Ukrainians abroad.

What insurance is suitable for a trip to Poland?

Polish border and visa services have clear insurance requirements, and it is important to meet them to avoid being denied entry.

Minimum insurance parameters:

▪️ coverage amount — from 30,000 euros (50,000+ recommended),

▪️ valid throughout the Schengen area or at least in Poland,

▪️ coverage of emergency medical care, hospitalisation, repatriation of the body in case of death.

The insurance must be valid for the entire duration of your stay and must be purchased in advance, especially when applying for a visa or residence card.

Does Poland recognise Ukrainian insurance policies?

If the insurance policy is issued in Ukraine by an official licensed company and meets EU requirements, Poland will accept it. It is important that the insurance is in English or Polish and that the policy includes all the necessary details: duration, coverage, and territory of validity.

Types of insurance for short trips (tourism, visits, shopping)

If you are travelling to Poland for a weekend, to visit friends, for shopping or sightseeing, it is sufficient to take out a short-term policy for 3-30 days. This is basic medical insurance for travel abroad, which covers unforeseen expenses and is a mandatory condition for entry.

Insurance for long-term stays or work

If you plan to work, study or live in Poland, you need to take out an extended policy:

1. with coverage of at least €30,000;

2. for a period of 3 months to 1 year;

3. with the option of extension.

It will also be useful to study separate material on insurance in Poland, which details the nuances of long-term stays.

What else should you consider before travelling?

Before departure, check:

▪️ the validity of your passport;

▪️ the accuracy of the information in your insurance policy;

▪️ availability of additional documents (invitation, accommodation reservation, return ticket).

It is also important to know that if you are travelling in your own car, you will need a Green Card — this is compulsory car insurance for crossing EU borders. You can obtain it at Visit Ukraine. Without it, you will simply not be allowed to cross the European border.

How can I quickly and conveniently get medical insurance for Poland?

You can get the insurance you need in 5 minutes:

▪️ completely online, with instant payment;

▪️ no document scans;

▪️ with a choice of validity period and type of coverage;

👉 Choose the right tariff and receive your policy by email. This is your key to a safe and peaceful trip.
