The Dyakivtsi-Rakovets checkpoint has been opened for all buses: new rules for crossing the border with Romania in summer 2025
New opportunities for bus transportation have opened up on the border with Romania. Find out what changes have been introduced at the Dyakivtsi-Rakovets checkpoint and who can use the route
The Dyakivtsi-Rakovets checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Romanian border had previously imposed restrictions on the movement of large buses. The main reason for this was infrastructure issues on the Romanian side, which made it difficult to accommodate large-capacity vehicles. However, in 2025, both sides reached an agreement on the temporary lifting of restrictions: from July 9 to September 30, 2025, buses of any size and passenger capacity will be allowed to pass through the Dyakivtsi-Rakovets checkpoint. According to the press service of the State Customs Service of Ukraine on Telegram, this decision was made in order to relieve other routes and ensure a stable flow of passengers during periods of high demand.
Conditions for crossing the border with Romania at the Dyakivtsi-Rakovets checkpoint
According to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, buses of any size and capacity are allowed to cross the border at the Dyakivtsi-Rakovets checkpoint. However, prior electronic registration in the eCherga system remains mandatory.
Incidentally, the Dyakivtsi-Rakovets checkpoint operates around the clock and accepts not only buses but also cars, trucks, and pedestrians, making it versatile and convenient for a wide range of travelers.

How to prepare for crossing the border: important tips
Crossing the border in summer is traditionally accompanied by increased traffic, so in order not to waste extra time when crossing and not to risk being denied entry to the EU, we recommend that you pay attention to the following details:
1. Mandatory registration in the eCherga for buses and trucks.
2. Obtaining a “Green Card” — this is international car insurance, which is mandatory for all drivers crossing the border. You can purchase insurance in a few minutes online on the Visit Ukraine portal.
3. Travel insurance — border guards have the right to request a policy when leaving the EU, so it is better to purchase insurance for yourself and your passengers in advance. Visit Ukraine also offers a convenient service for purchasing medical insurance with an instant electronic policy.
4. Confirmation of the purpose of the trip and availability of financial means — border guards may request confirmation when crossing the border.
5. Passport validity — you may not be allowed to enter EU countries if your foreign passport has expired. Read how long your passport must be valid to travel abroad at the link.
These simple steps will not only save you time but also help you avoid trouble at the border. By the way, we told you where the longest queues are and where it is best to cross the border by car in the summer of 2025 in our previous article.
We remind you! In July and August 2025, traffic will be restricted on the bridge in Solotvyno on the border with Romania. Read our previous article to find out which checkpoints will remain open, how to avoid queues, and what you need to have with you for your trip.
