Are you planning a holiday in sunny Cyprus, moving there for work or study? One of the most important issues to resolve in advance is medical insurance. Not only does it increase your safety, but it is often a prerequisite for obtaining a visa or even visa-free entry.

Who needs insurance to enter Cyprus?
For most foreigners, medical insurance is mandatory. Tourists travelling for a short period must have a policy that covers emergency medical care. Students and people coming to work usually take out more comprehensive policies — this is one of the requirements for obtaining long-term residence permits.

Do you need insurance to travel to Cyprus without a visa?
Ukrainians can visit Cyprus under a simplified scheme — without a visa for up to 90 days. Although insurance is not formally required, it is strongly recommended.
Medical services in Cyprus are quite expensive, so even a minor injury or cold can cost several hundred or thousands of euros. An insurance policy will protect you from large expenses and unnecessary stress.

Insurance for refugees in Cyprus
For persons who have been granted refugee status or temporary protection, local state medical insurance applies. However, its coverage is limited, and an additional private insurance policy may cover services that are not included in the state programme.

General requirements for insurance policies for travel to Cyprus
For short-term trips (tourist or business), the policy must cover emergency medical care, hospitalisation and transport to Ukraine in the event of serious illness. The amount of coverage should usually be at least €30,000, similar to the requirements of the Schengen area.
For long-term trips (work, study), the insurance policy must be valid for the entire period of stay and include coverage for all major risks. In some cases, additional confirmation or a special type of local insurance may be required.

What kind of insurance can you get in Cyprus?
You can get a local policy directly in Cyprus. However, this option has several drawbacks: it is usually more expensive, limited to the territory of the country (not valid when travelling outside Cyprus), and takes longer to arrange.
Many Ukrainians choose to take out medical insurance before leaving. This can be done through trusted Ukrainian companies, for example, online on the Visit Ukraine portal. This option is cheaper, faster and often offers more flexible terms.
