How to register a marriage with a military man during the war: an algorithm of actions
The government has simplified the procedure for registering a marriage with the military, which will allow servicemen and their partners to marry even in difficult conditions without complications. Learn more about registration
In the context of full-scale war, the state continues to support the family rights of citizens serving in the Armed Forces and other law enforcement agencies.
In 2025, a simplified marriage registration mechanism is in place, allowing marriages to be concluded even without the personal presence of one of the spouses. This decision was made so that military personnel and their families could officially formalize their relationships, despite serving on the front lines or in other dangerous conditions.
How to get married remotely?
A military serviceman or employee of another law enforcement agency must submit a written application to their commander. The application must include:
surname, first name, and patronymic (if any);
date of birth;
citizenship;
in case of a change of surname — information about the chosen surname after marriage.
This document confirms the military personnel's consent to marry.
How is the application submitted?
1. The commander certifies the military personnel's signature on the application.
2. The document is sent to the Civil Registry Office (State Registration of Civil Status Acts), where the other spouse submits the application.
3. The application can also be sent to any other active Civil Registry Office or territorial body of the Ministry of Justice.
4. Documents are submitted via electronic means of communication, and the originals are sent to the relevant department without delay.
Thus, even while in a combat zone, a military servicemember can give consent to marriage.

Who can use the simplified procedure?
In 2025, it applies to:
- servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
- employees of the State Border Service and the State Security Service;
- personnel of the National Guard, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Foreign Intelligence Service;
- police officers;
- rank and file and senior personnel of the Civil Protection Service, the State Bureau of Investigation, and the State Penitentiary Service;
- employees of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Economic Security Bureau;
- medical personnel performing duties during wartime.
Why is this important?
The simplified marriage registration mechanism will remain in place in 2025, as it allows family ties to be preserved and formalized even in the most difficult circumstances. For many Ukrainian military personnel, this is not just a formality, but an important step that provides their families with legal protection and social guarantees.
