Poland's GDP is projected to increase by up to 2% over the next five years, thanks to the high employment rate of refugees from Ukraine and significant contributions to the social insurance system. This opinion was expressed by Maciej Duszczyk, Deputy Secretary of State of the Ministry of Internal Policy and Administration of Poland, Ukrinform reports.

The official emphasized that the level of employment of Ukrainian refugees in Poland exceeds that of other EU countries. 

"Recent data show that this employment rate in Poland is 67%, while in Germany it does not exceed even 30%," he said.

How many Ukrainians pay taxes in Poland?

Currently, the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) has more than 750 thousand Ukrainians who pay contributions from work. At the same time, Duszczyk pointed out that although Ukrainian citizens have made a significant contribution to the Polish social insurance system, the amount of payments to refugees from ZUS is generally small.

The influx of refugees from Ukraine also has a positive impact on the Polish economy. In the first years, there was significant spending by war refugees who came with their savings, which led to an estimated 0.5% of GDP growth. However, in the next few years, GDP growth is projected to be 1.2-2%. 

According to preliminary data, there are up to 1 million Ukrainian refugees in Poland, and the Sejm has approved the extension of temporary protection for them without changes until June 30, 2024.

The decision was made in the context of continuing support and protection for Ukrainian citizens who were forced to seek asylum.
