Like many other countries, Canada also helps Ukrainians who have to move to another country due to the russian invasion. Back in the spring, the Canadian government announced a new law that will apply to Ukrainians affected by the war. The country's authorities also announced a new 4-year plan, according to which Canada plans to increase its immigration goals and accept almost one and a half million immigrants by 2025.

Immigration to Canada is not an easy process that should be taken very seriously. In order for people who are planning to move to understand all the nuances of this matter as much as possible, we have prepared a special dictionary of basic terms for an immigrant to Canada.

Immigration to Canada: Basic Terms and Abbreviations

• IRCC - Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. IRCC, formerly known as CIC, is the relevant department dealing with refugee, citizenship and immigration issues in Canada.

• EE - express entry. This is a special online system through which the Canadian government reviews and processes immigration applications for permanent residence in the country. Currently, the following immigration programs use the EE system: Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades (FST), Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

 PNP (Provincial Nominee Program) is a subset of Canada's immigration programs through which people can receive a nomination from a relevant Canadian territory to apply for permanent residence.

• PR (Permanent Resident) - that is a person who has already passed the immigration program and received the status of a permanent resident from the IRCC department. Permanent residents are fully equal to Canadians in terms of rights and obligations, but at the same time they officially remain citizens of another country.

• SUV (Start-Up Visa Program) is a federal immigration program that was created by the Canadian government specifically for entrepreneurs who immigrated to Canada and plan to open their own business there. A person who has successfully obtained a Start-Up Visa has the right to permanent residence in the country.

• NOC - national classification of professions. This is a relevant system of classification of professions, which is formed on the basis of the type of work and the specifics of job duties that a person performs for the purpose of immigration.

Today there are 5 main NOC groups:

- Zero skill level: managerial work;

- Qualification level A: professional work, which mainly requires a diploma of higher education;

- Qualification level B: technical specialties and professions. In this case, it is usually necessary to have a college diploma or student certificate;

- Qualification level C: intermediate jobs that require a certificate of secondary education and/or special training;

- Skill level D: These are occupational occupations for which on-the-job training is usually provided.

• CRS - is a comprehensive ranking system based on points. It is used to rank a profile in the Express Entry database based on education, skills, work experience, language proficiency and other factors.

• GCKey - is personal information in the form of a name and password that an individual uses to register and use Government of Canada online services. Keep in mind that when logging into your account, you will need to answer some questions for security.

• Biometric - biometric data, namely fingerprints and a photo, of a person applying for a permanent residence permit in Canada. This formality is necessary for security and to confirm identity.

• SIN - is a 9-character Social Security Number. A social security number is necessary to live in Canada to access all government programs, such as paying taxes, receiving benefits, etc.

• TRV (Temporary Resident Visa) - is an official document pasted into a person's passport. This is an official confirmation of the fact that the person has met all the necessary requirements and has the right to be on the territory of Canada as a temporary resident.

• FSW - federal skilled worker. It is a federal immigration program that allows foreign workers to apply for permanent residence in Canada after filling out an online profile with relevant information about work experience, education, English and/or French language skills, etc.

• PGWPP (Post-Graduation Work Permit Program) - a program for granting a work permit after graduation. This is a program through which foreign students who have graduated from Canadian educational institutions can obtain an official work permit in Canada to gain experience. After some time, it is allowed to apply for permanent residence in Canada through Express Entry.
