Two checkpoints will be closed on the border with Slovakia and Hungary: dates, times, and reasons for restrictions

Two checkpoints will be temporarily closed on the border with Hungary and Slovakia. Find out when traffic will be stopped, how this will affect travel, and what alternatives are available to drivers
In May 2025, two important international border crossing points on the Ukrainian border will be temporarily suspended: Uzhhorod-Vyshne Nemetske (Slovakia) and Chop-Zahony (Hungary). According to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, the reason for this is technical work involving the connection of backup power systems with the temporary disconnection of substations from the power grid.
When and where exactly will the checkpoints be closed?
The closure of the checkpoints applies to the Ukrainian side, namely:
● May 16, 2025 — the Uzhhorod-Vyshne Nemetske checkpoint will be closed from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.;
● May 17, 2025 — the Chop-Zahony checkpoint will also be closed from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
This means that neither citizens nor vehicles will be allowed to cross the border during these hours.
In view of the restrictions, the customs service urges travelers to plan their route in advance and choose alternative border crossing points.

Crossing the border with Slovakia and Hungary: what is the best way to travel?
For those who planned to travel to Slovakia or Hungary on the specified dates, it is recommended to pay attention to other operating international checkpoints. For example:
● on the border with Slovakia: “Maly Berezny – Ublia”;
● on the border with Hungary: “Luzhanka – Beregsurany,” “Vylok – Tisabets,” or “Dzvinove – Lonyia.”
Before traveling, we recommend checking the current situation on the border service websites and monitoring information about queues to avoid delays and unexpected stops on the way.
