The UK is one of the most attractive destinations for migrants seeking to build a life abroad: studying at prestigious universities, working for international companies, developing their own business, or moving in with a partner. However, British immigration law is one of the most complex in Europe. Frequent updates to the rules, a large number of requirements, and strict checks create a high barrier for applicants. In such a situation, legal support becomes not only desirable, but absolutely necessary.

Main types of visas to the UK for Ukrainian citizens

Depending on the purpose of stay, Ukrainians can apply for the following types of visas:

1. Student visa - study visa

Designed for people who plan to study at schools, colleges or universities in the UK. It is necessary to have an official invitation from the educational institution, proof of financial solvency and knowledge of English at the appropriate level.

2. Skilled Worker visa

Issued upon an invitation from a British employer who is licensed to hire foreign specialists. Important conditions are the level of qualification, knowledge of English and compliance with the minimum salary threshold.

3. Start-up and Innovator Founder visa - for entrepreneurs

These visas are suitable for those who want to start an innovative business in the UK. The applicant must present a business idea that is approved by an authorized organization and prove its development potential.

4. Spouse/Partner visa - for family reunification

Suitable for persons who are in a relationship or marriage with British citizens or permanent residents. It is necessary to confirm the reality of the relationship, financial solvency and cohabitation.

5. Short-stay visa - short-term visa

For tourist, business or medical travel. It does not provide for the right to work or long-term residence, but requires a clear justification of the purpose of the visit, financial guarantees and feedback from Ukraine.

Each visa requires a different list of documents, language skills, confirmation of intentions and compliance with the terms of stay.

How can Ukrainians obtain a residence permit in the UK?

Residence permit in the UK (Indefinite Leave to Remain or ILR) can be obtained on the basis of:

Work: after 5 years of legal residence on a Skilled Worker visa, subject to the conditions of the visa and proof of work experience.

● Family circumstances: after 2-5 years of marriage or partnership with a British citizen.

● Humanitarian protection: persons who have been granted refugee status or protection under humanitarian programs are eligible for long-term residence.

Business or investment: when implementing a successful innovative business project or investing significant funds in the British economy.

To apply for ILR you need to:

● Legally stay in the country for a specified period of time;

● Confirm compliance with visa conditions;

● Not have any serious offenses or prolonged absences from the UK;

● Pass an English language exam (usually at the B1 level) and the Life in the UK Test, a test of knowledge of the country's culture, history and system.

The UK application process requires accuracy, detailed compliance with the rules, and the ability to argue your position. Even minor mistakes can be grounds for refusal. That is why legal support is of great importance. An immigration lawyer will help you:

● Choose the right type of visa or residence permit, according to your situation;

● Prepare all documents in accordance with current requirements, taking into account new changes in legislation;

● Avoid common mistakes that often lead to rejection of documents;

● Support an appeal in case of refusal and competently build a defense strategy;

● Communicate with the Home Office on your behalf, relieving you of stress and the risk of misinterpretation;

● Develop an immigration strategy for years to come - from the first visa to citizenship.

So, consulting a lawyer is about confidence and results. After all, obtaining a British visa or residence permit is not just bureaucracy, but a complex legal procedure that requires attention to detail and a strategic approach. Contacting Visit Ukraine specialists guarantees that your case will be handled by an experienced lawyer who understands the specifics of British migration law and has successful experience in processing Ukrainian applicants.

👉 So, if you are planning to move or are already preparing documents, contact a specialist who will not only advise you, but will take care of the entire complex legal process.

We remind you! UK law requires or recommends that foreigners entering the country have an insurance policy, depending on the purpose of their trip and the length of their stay. However, the policy may have different requirements. Read our previous article to find out when and what kind of insurance is required to enter the UK.
