Starting July 1, Ukrainian citizens staying in Estonia will no longer be able to enjoy free travel on the trains of the state-owned railway company Elron. This is reported by Delfi.

Starting in early July, Ukrainian refugees will have to buy tickets for Elron trains. This can be done online or through ticket machines.

"Free travel on Elron trains will remain only for those refugees arriving in Estonia during the first 2-4 days, on the basis of a special bracelet issued at the border crossing, provided that the refugee cannot buy a ticket on his or her own," explained Pilli Kauber, Head of Business Development at Elron.

She also noted that many refugees who stayed in Estonia have already found jobs, so it is inappropriate to continue to provide them with free travel on the basis of a public transport card.

How to buy discounted train tickets?

In addition, individual discounts for Elron tickets have also changed since July 1.

"A 5% discount will be applied to individual tickets purchased online and from vending machines on the train. All other discounts for individual tickets will remain unchanged at 30% of the full ticket price," Kauber added.

The 30% discount is available to:

• persons under 19 years of age

• schoolchildren and students;

• pensioners

• people with disabilities;

• persons over 65 years of age;

• people with severe and moderate disabilities;

• accompanying persons with disabilities under the age of 16 and persons with severe disabilities.

Please note! The respective discounts do not apply to travel in the 1st class of the train.

Free travel is provided for children under 7 years of age, people with disabilities under 16 years of age, people with severe disabilities and their accompanying persons.
