According to official statistics from the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, more than 1.1 million foreigners (1,188,466) entered Ukraine in the first half of 2024. What does the health insurance policy cover for travelling to Ukraine?

Depending on the chosen package of services, a tourist in Ukraine can get coverage for the following risks

- general medical services and Covid-19 treatment in Ukraine in the amount of UAH 30,000 or 100,000.

- Outpatient treatment (visit to a specialised doctor, examination and consultation, instrumental and laboratory tests) in case of an insured event.

- Medicines prescribed by a doctor to provide assistance in the event of an insured event.

- hospitalisation (stay in a ward, intensive care unit, intensive care unit, medical care prescribed by a doctor, purchase of medicines).

- Coverage of expenses for isolation of the Insured person and persons who were in close contact with the Insured person.

- COVID-19 diagnostics of the Insured person's contact persons, etc.

What is the difference between standard health insurance and war risk insurance?

Standard medical insurance covers expenses due to illness or accident, while insurance with war risks coverage has medical coverage and additionally covers accidents that may occur as a result of active hostilities, passive war risks or terrorist acts.

Important! In accordance with Part 53 of Article 7 of the Law of Ukraine ‘On Insurance’, insurance covering war risks is mandatory for foreign journalists, reporters, correspondents, opinion leaders and media representatives.

What is the insurance period and cost?

Who can take out an insurance policy?

The insurance policy applies to foreign nationals, citizens of another state and stateless persons. The insured person can be a representative of any country in the world, except for the Russian Federation.

There are no age restrictions for taking out an insurance policy covering war risks. A person aged 18 to 70 can take out health insurance.

What territories does the insurance policy cover?

The insurance policy is valid on the territory of Ukraine, except for the temporarily occupied territories of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, as well as the territories of direct combat operations (front line).

How do I apply for a health insurance policy?

To apply for a health insurance policy on the Visit Ukraine portal, you only need your international passport. To purchase insurance, you should follow these steps:

1. Prepare your passport;

2. Choose an insurance package (that meets your needs).

3. Choose the term of insurance

4. Enter your date of birth.

5. Fill in the form with the data about the insured person (full name, e-mail, contact phone number, passport details, citizenship and place of residence).

6. Sign the insurance contract (you will need to enter a special code that will be sent to the specified e-mail).

7. Pay for the insurance policy.
