Despite the full-scale war, school graduates are preparing to enter higher education institutions. To make it easier for applicants to understand the stages of the admission campaign, the Ministry of Education and Science has published a memo. Here are 10 steps to take to successfully apply to a university.
1. First of all, you need to register a personal electronic account - you can do this from July 1, 2023. The applicant's account will be open until November 30.
2. Get a consultation, if necessary. Remember that the higher education institution (HEI) will advise applicants in case of questions. For this purpose, counseling centers will be established at the admission committee.
3. Provide all the necessary information during registration:
- series and number of the document on education;
- data of the NMT certificate, EIT or examination letter (number, PIN code and year of receipt), which the applicant received during registration for the EMI/EFE;
Please note! If the applicant does not have these certificates, he/she must submit his/her passport data (series and number) and taxpayer registration number (TIN).
4. Specify the benefits and confirm them. To do this, you need to apply to the university to which you plan to enroll and submit the necessary documents.
A separate procedure has been created for applicants from the temporarily occupied territories (TOT): they will be able to apply remotely and not submit NMT results. It should be added that such applicants are allowed to conclude a study agreement within three months from the date of enrollment.
Last year, the government adopted a resolution to transfer students who lived in the TOT, were under occupation or had the status of internally displaced persons to state-funded education. Read more about this here.
According to the Ministry of Education and Science, more than 21,000 students were allowed to switch to free education in 2022.
5. Pass the entrance exams. In 2023, applicants can apply on the basis of the following exams:
• National Multidisciplinary Test (NMT) - for all specialties except arts and sports;
• creative competition - it can be passed both in person and remotely;
• an interview or motivation letter - only for paid studies for a certain list of specialties.
Since many Ukrainian students have gone abroad, all conditions will be created for them to take part in the admission process remotely. Currently, 21 countries have confirmed the possibility of taking the multi-subject test.
The main session will be held in the following countries: Austria, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the United States. Negotiations with some other countries are still ongoing.
6. Apply to the university. It is allowed to submit up to twenty applications, of which a maximum of five are for state-funded education.
7. Study the requirements for admission on a state-funded basis - you need to score at least 130 points.
It should be added that the minimum for the contract form of education is determined by the educational institution independently.
8. Get recommendations for studying with state funding or at the expense of individuals.
9. Choose a place of study and confirm your choice. This must be done within a certain period of time in your personal account or in person at the educational institution.
10. Sign an agreement with the chosen university. Students of both contact and state-funded forms of education must conclude agreements with a higher education institution. In 2023, this can be done remotely using an electronic signature.
