Traffic restrictions will be imposed at the border crossing with Romania for two months: details

In July and August 2025, traffic will be restricted across the bridge in Solotvyno on the border with Romania. Find out which border crossing points will remain open, how to avoid queues, and what you need to have with you for your trip
From July 7 to September 3, 2025, traffic will be temporarily restricted at the Solotvyno-Sighetu Marmatiei checkpoint due to repairs on the emergency bridge over the Tisa River. This was reported by the press service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. This bridge connects the Ukrainian village of Solotvyno and the Romanian city of Sighetu Marmatiei and is one of the key border crossing points in the Zakarpattia region.
Restrictions on crossing the border with Romania
The restrictions apply only to motor vehicles — pedestrian traffic will remain open. Work will be carried out on the road surface and sidewalks of the bridge on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and access from the Romanian side will be closed during these hours.
What detours are available during repairs: list of checkpoints on the border with Romania
During the repairs, Ukrainian drivers planning to travel to Romania are advised to use alternative border crossing points. There are 13 official border crossing points on the Ukraine-Romania border, 5 of which are for motor vehicles. They operate around the clock and can accept motor vehicles during the bridge repairs.
The following road crossings are available:
● Dyakove – Halmeu
● Porubne – Siret
● Dyakivtsi – Rakovets
● Krasnoilsk – Vicov de Sus
All these checkpoints are operating as usual, so when planning your route, it is worth checking the current traffic situation. The best way to do this is to use the official website of the State Customs Service of Ukraine, which provides real-time updates on queues for both entry and exit. For more information on the schedule of the checkpoint on the border between Ukraine and Romania, queues, and border crossing rules, please refer to the previous article.

How to avoid queues at the border with Romania?
Despite alternative routes, traffic jams and queues are possible during peak hours. Therefore, when planning your trip, it is important to:
1. Travel during off-peak hours (the least congestion is in the morning on weekdays).
2. Have up-to-date information about the congestion at checkpoints at hand.
3. Make sure you have all the necessary documents so you don't get held up at customs.
Drivers should be especially careful — when traveling to Romania, you must have an international insurance policy called a “Green Card”. You can easily get one online on the Visit Ukraine platform by choosing the duration and type of coverage.
What documents are required for travel to Romania?
Ukrainians traveling to Romania must have the following:
● Foreign passport (biometric or regular with a visa);
● Medical insurance covering expenses in case of illness or accident in the EU;
● Green card — for drivers;
● Proof of financial means and purpose of entry (how much money you need to have to enter EU countries — read more here).
These documents not only guarantee legal stay abroad, but also allow you to avoid additional questions from border guards. You can get medical insurance and a Green Card in a few minutes on the Visit Ukraine service, which also offers legal support and advice for travelers.
We remind you! Romania has several large airports that serve international flights, but not all of them are equally convenient for Ukrainians. Read more about the airports in Romania that are closest to Ukraine and how to get there in our previous article.
