After the start of full-scale war, the specifics of insurance for entry into Ukraine changed – policies covering military risks became available to foreigners. The main difference is that a standard insurance policy does not cover risks related to military actions, while a policy with extended coverage can solve this problem.

What type of insurance is required to enter Ukraine?

Standard medical insurance covers expenses resulting from illness or accident, while insurance with military risk coverage provides medical coverage and additionally covers accidents that may occur as a result of active combat operations, passive military risks or terrorist acts.

Important! According to Part 53 of Article 7 of the Law of Ukraine ‘On Insurance’, insurance covering military risks is mandatory for foreign journalists, reporters, correspondents, opinion leaders, and media representatives.

What should be included in an insurance policy for foreigners?

Your insurance policy for Ukraine 2025 must meet several key requirements:

Minimum coverage

In accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine (in particular, the Law of Ukraine ‘On Tourism’ and regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine), as well as the recommendations of the State Border Service, the policy must have sufficient coverage to reimburse possible medical expenses. The recommended coverage amount should be at least 30,000 euros or the equivalent in another currency.

Main insured events

The policy must cover the costs of:

– hospitalisation and outpatient treatment;

– emergency medical assistance and transport (evacuation);

– repatriation of the body in the event of death;

– treatment of injuries sustained as a result of accidents.

Coverage of military risks

In a state of war, standard medical insurance does not cover incidents resulting from combat, terrorist attacks, military operations, etc. Insurance with military risks guarantees that you will receive medical assistance and compensation if you suffer as a result of these circumstances. This is critical for your safety.

How to take out a medical insurance policy?

To take out a medical insurance policy on the Visit Ukraine portal, you only need a foreign passport. To purchase insurance, you must do the following:

1. Prepare your foreign passport;

2. Select an insurance package (that meets your needs).

3. Select the insurance period

4. Enter your date of birth.

5. Fill in the form with the insured person's details (full name, email, contact phone number, passport details, citizenship and place of residence).

6. Sign the insurance contract (you will need to enter a special code that will be sent to the email address you provided).

7. Pay for the insurance policy.
