The academic year in Ukraine is coming to an end, and with each passing day, the moment when the last bell rings in schools is getting closer. However, this year, the end of the school year may not be as standard as usual, and in some schools, classes will continue until June. In 2025, in most educational institutions, the last bell will ring on 30 May.

Where will the last bell ring on 30 May?

This date has been announced in major cities such as Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Cherkasy, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Ternopil, Kryvyi Rih and many others. However, in some communities, the holiday may be postponed to 31 May or even to the beginning of June. In particular, in the Zhytomyr region, celebrations will take place from 31 May to 6 June.

According to a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the academic year may last until 30 June, but the exact date of its end is determined by the schools themselves, taking into account a number of factors. Pedagogical councils make decisions based on such factors as:

▪️ the amount of educational material;

▪️ the security situation;

▪️ the needs of students;

▪️ teachers' capabilities.

Thus, state standards allow for flexibility in the end of the school year. In some educational institutions, classes will end in May, and in others in June, if additional time is needed for learning, for example, due to the situation related to military operations.

What will happen after the last bell?

After the last bell rings, many schools plan to use June not for standard lessons, but for various additional classes and activities, such as:

▪️ consultations and compensatory classes;

▪️ creative studios and language clubs;

▪️ safety classes, including tactical medicine, mine awareness, cyber literacy;

▪️ summer camps and excursions.

When will the certificates be issued?

🔻 2 to 6 June — primary education certificates (for 4th grade);

🔻 11 to 14 June — basic secondary education certificates (for Year 9);

🔻 18 to 21 June — school leaving certificates for Year 11 graduates.
