Eco-friendly tourism is growing in popularity in Ukraine, and one of the country's largest ski resorts, Bukovel, has taken a significant step towards sustainable development. Eleven hotels located within the resort have recently been certified under the Green Key programme, confirming their commitment to the environment.

What is Green Key certification?

Green Key is an international certification programme awarded to hotels and restaurants that adhere to environmental standards in their operations. It confirms that the establishment is actively working to conserve natural resources, reduce its negative impact on the environment and develop responsible tourism.

The programme covers more than 80 countries worldwide and is only awarded to hotels that take issues such as energy and water conservation, waste recycling, the use of environmentally friendly materials and the reduction of plastic use seriously.

Which hotels in Bukovel have received Green Key certification?

Recently, 11 hotels in Bukovel received the international Green Key environmental certification.

New participants have joined the already certified hotels, such as Radisson and Glacier: Hay, Tavel, Hvoya, Twins, Mountain Residence, Bukovel Hotel, Bukovel Apart, Bukovel Shale, and Shelter. This demonstrates Bukovel's commitment to becoming one of the leaders in eco-friendly tourism in Ukraine and the world.

All these hotels not only comply with certification requirements but also actively implement innovative methods aimed at protecting the environment. For example, they use renewable energy sources, consume water sparingly, actively sort waste, and use environmentally friendly materials.

In addition, reducing the use of single-use plastics is important to many tourists, and many hotels in Bukovel are introducing alternatives that help reduce their negative impact on nature.

Bukovel is actively working to become the first officially recognised eco-friendly tourist destination in Ukraine.
