Many foreigners want to see with their own eyes the country and its citizens fighting for independence in the face of a full-scale invasion. Insurance for tourists in Ukraine is a mandatory condition for entry. You can choose a standard medical insurance policy or an extended one with war coverage. The latter will be more relevant in the current situation. It should be noted that it is recommended to purchase a policy from a Ukrainian insurer, as most foreign insurance companies suspend their coverage in high-risk areas. Is insurance mandatory for entry into Ukraine?

According to Ukrainian law, in order for foreigners and stateless persons to enter Ukraine, they must have an insurance policy for the entire duration of their stay. This insurance must be issued by a Ukrainian insurance company or a foreign company that has an official representative or a cooperation agreement with a Ukrainian insurance company.

For greater confidence in your safety in Ukraine, it is best to take out a Ukrainian insurance policy, as it has several advantages:

– no war-related coverage restrictions;

– no red tape – the policy is guaranteed to comply with Ukrainian law;

According to Part 53 of Article 7 of the Law of Ukraine ‘On Insurance’, insurance covering military risks is mandatory for foreign journalists, reporters, correspondents, opinion leaders, and media representatives.

What insurance should tourists choose: classic or with coverage of military risks?

Standard medical insurance covers expenses resulting from illness or accident, while insurance with coverage of military risks provides medical coverage and additionally covers accidents that may occur as a result of active combat operations, passive military risks or terrorist acts.

What risks does travel insurance cover?

Each non-resident must assess their own needs and choose one of the policies offering classic medical insurance or medical insurance with war risk coverage.

Standard medical insurance

Depending on the package of services selected, tourists in Ukraine can obtain coverage for the following risks:

– general medical services and treatment for Covid-19 in Ukraine in the amount of 30,000 or 100,000 hryvnia.

– outpatient treatment (visit to a specialist, examination and consultation, instrumental and laboratory examinations) in the event of an insured event.

– Medicines prescribed by a doctor to provide assistance in the event of an insured event.

– Hospitalisation (stay in a ward, intensive care unit, resuscitation unit, medical care prescribed by a doctor, purchase of medicines).

– coverage of the costs of isolation of the insured person and persons who were in close contact with the insured person.

– COVID-19 testing of persons who have been in contact with the insured person, etc.

Medical insurance with coverage of military risks

By purchasing an insurance policy with coverage of military risks, a foreigner is entitled to:

– COVID-19 diagnosis and treatment, including the costs of compulsory observation;

– outpatient treatment, medication and hospitalisation;

– emergency dental care;

– medical evacuation;

– repatriation of the insured person (or their body in the event of death) from their place of stay to their place of permanent residence.

– accidents, injuries and fatalities that may occur as a result of active or passive military risks or terrorist acts.

How much does medical insurance cost for foreigners in Ukraine?

How to obtain an insurance policy covering military risks?

To take out an insurance policy covering military risks on the Visit Ukraine portal, you only need a foreign passport. To purchase Visit Ukraine insurance, you must do the following:

1. Prepare your foreign passport;

2. Select an insurance package (that meets your needs).

3. Select the insurance period

4. Enter your date of birth.

5. Fill out the form with the insured person's details (full name, e-mail, contact phone number, passport details, citizenship and place of residence).

6. Sign the insurance contract (you will need to enter a special code that will be sent to the specified email address).

7. Pay for the insurance policy.
