Travelling in 2025 will become slightly more expensive for tourists around the world. According to Which? Travel , more and more popular tourist destinations are introducing new or raising existing tourist fees. This is due to the attempts of cities and countries to better regulate tourist flows and receive additional funds for infrastructure development.

Let's take a closer look at what changes await travellers in different parts of the world.

Thailand

In mid-2025, Thailand plans to introduce a new tourist tax. According to preliminary information, tourists arriving by land will pay a one-time fee of 300 baht (about 370 UAH). For those who choose to travel by sea, the fee will be 150 baht (approximately 185 UAH).

Italy

Venice is expanding its tourist tax programme in 2025. The standard fee will be 5 euros (219 UAH) for tourists who plan their visit in advance. However, for those who decide to visit the city spontaneously and book a visit less than four days in advance, the fee will increase to €10 (UAH 438). This system will be in place for more days than in 2024.

Netherlands

In the capital of the Netherlands, the tourist tax has already increased to 12.5% of the cost of accommodation in 2024. In 2025, additional changes will affect tourists arriving by water - for them, the fee will increase from 14 to 14.50 euros per person (635 UAH).

France

The French capital is introducing a new system of tourist taxes in 2025. The amount of tax will depend on the type of accommodation:

- palaces: EUR 15.60 per person per night (UAH 683);

- five-star hotels: EUR 11.38 (UAH 498);

- four-star hotels: 8.45 euros (370 UAH);

- campsites (3-5 stars): 1.95 euros (85 UAH);

- unclassified accommodation: 5% of the cost of living, but up to a maximum of 15.60 euros (683 UAH).

Greece

Greece significantly increases tourist fees depending on the season. During the low season (November-February), the tax will be €2 per day (about 88 UAH). During the high season (April-October), the fee will increase to 8 euros per day (350 UAH), which for a week-long trip will add about 56 euros to the budget (2,453 UAH).

Portugal

From January 2025, the new rules will apply to the Azores, where a fee of €2 per person per night (about 88 UAH) will be introduced. It is worth noting that other regions of the country already have similar fees: in Lisbon - €2, in Faro - €2 in high season and €1 in low season.

Spain

Barcelona has a combined system of fees, including city and regional taxes. The city tax will increase to 4 euros per night (175 UAH). The regional tax varies depending on the type of accommodation:

- five-star hotels: 3.50 euros (153 UAH);

- four-star hotels: 1.70 euros (75 UAH);

- rental accommodation: EUR 2.25 (UAH 98).

The Balearic Islands have a ‘green tax’, the amount of which also depends on the season and type of accommodation - from 25 cents to 4 euros per person per night (from 11 to 175 UAH).
