The U4U programme was adopted in the United States at the beginning of the full-scale invasion (21 April 2022). It provides humanitarian assistance to Ukrainian refugees who, as of 11 February 2022, were living in Ukraine and who left for the United States due to the security situation. In fact, the U4U programme for military migrants is a temporary protection status and legalisation of residence and employment in the United States. Initially, the programme was designed for 2 years, starting in February 2022. However, the protracted military conflict in Ukraine has forced us to revise our previous plans, and now the U4U programme has been extended. When does the U4U programme for Ukrainians end?

When the programme was first implemented, it was designed for 2 years, so it was supposed to end at the end of 2024. However, in February of this year, the US government began extending the humanitarian password system. In order to continue to legally live and work in America, you need to apply for a new humanitarian password.

To find out when your specific temporary protection expires, you need to go to the I-94 form you received when you entered the United States and look for the expiration date.

How do I stay in the US after my U4U programme ends?

In order to continue to legally live and work in the United States, you need to apply for a new humanitarian password. This should be done no later than 6 months before the expiry of your current password, as the application process is lengthy and you may face an unpleasant situation: your temporary protection has expired and the new one has not yet been issued.

What conditions must a Ukrainian meet to receive a repeated humanitarian password?

- be a citizen of Ukraine or his/her immediate family member;

- confirm the fact of entry into the United States after 11 February 2022;

- confirm the existence of humanitarian reasons or public benefit to the United States;

- reside in the United States at the time of application;

- confirm compliance with all government requirements when using the first humanitarian password;

- pass biographical and biometric checks.
