President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has decided to change the Commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Here's who took over the post.

According to Zelensky, he heard a report from Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi on the situation at the front and in the areas of the Kursk operation. Together with the Commander-in-Chief, they also made several personnel decisions in the army.

According to the President's decree, Mykhailo Drapaty has been appointed as the new commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

What do you know about the new commander?

It should be noted that in 2014, Drapaty was the commander of the 2nd Mechanised Battalion of the 72nd Separate Mechanised Brigade. And since April of that year, the 72nd Mechanised Brigade has been in the east of Ukraine in its entirety. Under his command, the 2nd Battalion of the 72nd Mechanised Brigade entered Mariupol in May 2014.

In 2016, he was appointed commander of the 58th Separate Motorised Infantry Brigade (headquartered in Konotop, Sumy region). Since the summer of 2017, Drapatyi has been in the ATO zone, where he led the 58th Separate Mechanised Brigade's operations in the area of the Bakhmut road.

In 2019, he began a two-year course at the Ivan Chernyakhovsky National Defence University of Ukraine. Until 2024, he was the head of the Kherson Operational Group.

He is known as one of the commanders who led the liberation of the right bank of the Kherson region. In February 2024, he was appointed Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
