German carrier FlixBus plans to launch two dozen routes between Ukraine and Europe. The company's vice president for Eastern Europe, Michal Lehmann, told Forbes Ukraine in an interview.

The company says it has tripled the number of flights from Ukraine since the start of the war, but plans to launch even more routes.

What are the potential routes?

The company is currently waiting for authorisation for about 20 routes. Some of them will go to Germany, in particular, to cities such as Cologne, Munich, and Bremen.

At the same time, Lehmann refused to name more destinations, as the company is waiting for them to be confirmed by European regulators.

Currently, FlixBus operates more than 80 flights from Ukraine. Tickets for these and other routes can be purchased via the booking system on Visit Ukraine/.

When can new routes be launched?

The procedure for obtaining a route between Ukraine and the EU can take up to 18 months due to bureaucratic obstacles.

The problem comes from the EU, which has a complex legal framework for travelling between the bloc's countries and beyond. The processing of such permits has the lowest priority, which leads to delays of a year or more, while there is no legal deadline within which the authorities must make a decision.
