The National Defence Strategy Commission of the US Congress has published a report that outlines potential threats to the United States of America. The document also says that the situation in Ukraine will decide whether World War III will start. What else the commission's report says, we tell you below.

Threats to the United States

In general, the Congress argues that the United States faces the greatest challenges since the end of World War II, and the threat of China and russia was not properly assessed at the time.

In addition, the document notes that the untimely assessment of U.S. threats has led to a shrinking military, and the concept of force size does not meet today's needs. The commission proposes to establish Joint Forces in multiple theatres of operations with US allies and partners simultaneously in the Indo-Pacific, Europe and the Middle East.

Officials note that over the next few years, the US Congress must vote for additional appropriations for the national defence industry, as well as provide real growth in defence and non-defence national security spending for 2025. It also noted that the war in Ukraine has shown the urgent need to introduce new technologies and prepare for military conflicts "in new forms."

Who is the main threat to the US?

The document states that it is China that the commission considers the main rose. It is followed by russia and its allies North Korea and Iran. Analysts say Beijing has "derailed" US military superiority in the Western Pacific, with the Chinese army preparing to attack Taiwan by 2027.

At the same time, the main goal for Washington is to contain China. The commission also identified the threat from russia as "chronic."

What solution does the U.S. see?

The commission considers the only "viable" way out for the US is to increase aid and authorise the use of weapons on targets on russian territory. Analysts are sure: if russia achieves its goal in Ukraine, russia and China will start to press on two fronts at once. Ukraine will decide whether World War III will start, the commission argues.

If russia fails, then China will be forced to reconsider its plans for Taiwan.

Trump also predicts the start of World War III

US presidential candidate Donald Trump is convinced that World War III will start if he is defeated during the election. He said this to reporters at the start of a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, The Hill reported.

"If we win, it will be very simple. It will be resolved, and very quickly... If we don't win, you get big wars in the Middle East and possibly World War III. You are closer to World War III now than at any time since World War II. You've never been this close because our country is being run by incompetent people," Trump said.
