Trust in Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has decreased in some countries of the world compared to last year. The biggest drop in trust was recorded in Poland, a Pew Research Centre study has said.

Analysts surveyed people in 35 countries. On average, 40 per cent of those polled believe the Ukrainian president is doing the right thing regarding world affairs, while 46 per cent do not.

Where and how do people trust Zelensky?

According to the survey, the highest trust in Zelensky is in Sweden, where 8 out of 10 respondents, or 80 per cent, trust him. About two-thirds of respondents or more in Canada (64 per cent), the Netherlands (66 per cent) and the UK (72 per cent) also express confidence in Zelensky.

At the same time, 49 per cent of respondents in the US and 54 per cent in Germany trust the Ukrainian president.

At the same time, 6 out of 10 or more respondents do not trust the Ukrainian president in Greece (72%), Hungary (83%) and Italy (60%).

In Australia, Bangladesh, Japan, the Philippines and South Korea, more trust the Ukrainian president than not. By contrast, in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, trust in him is lower.

Where has trust fallen the most?

Over the year, trust in Zelensky has fallen significantly in some countries, especially in neighbouring Poland - by 22%. Trust in him also fell by double digits in South Korea (-15%) and South Africa (-12%). The declines are smaller but still statistically significant in Australia, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the US.

However, the researchers noticed that opinions regarding Zelensky's credibility differ depending on the political ideology of respondents. In the US, for example, liberals are twice as likely to express trust in him as conservatives.

Leftists are also more likely to trust Zelensky in Australia, Canada, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands and Turkey.

However, this pattern is changing in several countries. Thus, in Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Greece, Mexico, South Korea and Spain, the right-wing is more confident in Zelensky than the left.
