Temporary protection in the Czech Republic for refugees from Ukraine is valid until March 2025. This status provides access to public health insurance, education and the labor market. It should be noted that as of June 2024, the number of Ukrainians in the Czech Republic was more than 350 thousand people, and this number is growing: the country accepts almost 1500 new refugees every week. We will tell you which citizens will soon be able to receive additional payments in the article.
Increased benefits for Ukrainians with disabilities
According to Blesk.cz, along with supporting the amendment to extend temporary protection, the Czech government considered a proposal to increase humanitarian aid for refugees with disabilities to 12,000 CZK. Thus, ANO representatives settled on the following option:
– children are to be paid 6,600 CZK,
– adults - 4,400 CZK.
This increase will be compensation for the loss of free housing from September. It is noted that the seventh amendment to the law called lex Ukraine will now be discussed by the parliamentary committees on security and social policy.

Housing payments: what is known?
The housing allowance for refugees is currently: 6,000 CZK per month for children under 18 and refugees staying in the country for less than 150 days in registered apartments, and 4,800 CZK in unregistered housing. For the rest of the refugees, it is 3,000 CZK in apartments and 2,400 CZK in unregistered housing.
However, according to uamedia.eu, the Czech Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs predicts that the level of housing payments will increase in August. This is primarily due to the fact that in September, the right of many refugees to free temporary accommodation, for example, in educational institutions and dormitories, expires, and current housing payments for themselves and their families will not be enough.
"It is necessary to motivate foreigners with temporary protection to look for housing on the market," says the draft government resolution, which is currently being studied by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs offers two options for increasing the allowance:
1. Allowance for a maximum of three people with costs of 8,000 and 5,000 CZK in registered apartments and 6,400 and 4,000 CZK in unregistered apartments.
2. For five people living together, the amount will be CZK 6,000 and CZK 4,000, regardless of the registration of the dwelling.
Please note! At the end of June 2024, the Czech Republic began checking the residence of Ukrainian refugees, in particular due to cases of fake data submission. Read more about this in this article.
We remind you! Starting from September 1, Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic have to find new housing or arrange to pay for their current one. Read more about the changes, support for vulnerable persons and ways to find housing here.
