Some NATO countries are ready to expand their support for Ukraine and act directly on Ukrainian territory. Some of them may close the skies, while others are ready to send in troops.
According to the German Bild, citing sources, the following countries are in favour of expanding assistance to Ukraine: Estonia, Britain, Poland, Canada, Lithuania and France. At the same time, the United States and Germany are against this idea.
In any case, as the publication notes, there is no final decision yet, but the issue is being raised in several directions.
For example, some countries want to train the Ukrainian military directly on the territory of Ukraine. According to the former head of the German Ministry of Defence's operational headquarters, Nico Lange, it is more reasonable and economical to send instructors to western Ukraine than to force hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians to fly across Europe.
Also, a number of NATO countries, including Britain, Canada and Estonia, are considering the possibility of supplying weapons not to Ukraine's borders but even closer to the frontline. The concept of "forward logistics" is currently being developed;
Some of them are also in favour of strengthening the protection of western Ukraine with NATO air defence systems. Poland, in particular, is advocating this idea.

Who is ready to send troops to Ukraine?
According to another German newspaper, Der Spiegel, the Baltic states and Poland intend to send troops to Ukrainian territory if the russian army achieves a strategic breakthrough in eastern Ukraine.
It is noted that at a conference on foreign and security policy, representatives of the Baltic states criticised German officials for the consequences of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's ineffective policy towards Ukraine. This includes the refusal to provide the Ukrainian army with long-range weapons, a shortage of ammunition and equipment, and a ban on the Ukrainian Armed Forces from striking russian territory with Western weapons.
Representatives of Poland and the Baltic states also warned Berlin that if the russians succeed in breaking through on the frontline, they will not wait for russian troops to deploy on their borders and will send troops to Ukraine themselves. This is what the leaders of the United States and Germany fear.
At the same time, the German media point out that those politicians who try to limit the war by excessive restraint risk "getting it out of control" altogether.
As you know, a similar point of view is professed by France, which has also repeatedly stated that it will send troops to Ukraine in the event of a breakthrough by the occupation forces.
At the same time, we have previously written that Western troops are already present in Ukraine, but are not taking part in the war, as they have a specialisation that keeps them away from the front line. What foreign troops are doing on Ukrainian territory and why countries sent them there at their own risk is described here.
