Ukraine is once again experiencing a significant shortage in the power grid, which has led to several emergency blackouts. But people are also being urged to prepare for more power outages. Previously, power outages affected only production facilities, but now they also affect household consumers.
Ukrenergo reports that the intervals and duration of daily power outages in different regions or individual settlements depend on the amount of critical infrastructure on their territory.
How are blackout schedules formed?
Every day, an approximate forecast of consumption for the next day is made, after which consumption limits are set for each region. This information is communicated to regional power distribution companies. This means that it is forbidden to exceed the consumption limits in the event of a shortage.
Thus, if the region does not exceed the consumption limit, no blackout schedules are applied. If a region or a separate settlement violates the consumption limits set by the oblenergo, then hourly blackout schedules are applied.
It is the oblenergos that draw up schedules and queues of power outages for consumers. In doing so, they focus on the required number and duration of queues to ensure compliance with the limit.
Representatives of Ukrenergo note that in areas with a high concentration of critical or military-defense infrastructure that must have uninterrupted access to electricity, the schedules of outages for households and businesses (cafes, shops, entertainment venues, etc.) are extended.
In our previous article, we talked about the forecast for public debt payments until 2050, including the annual schedule.

Government decree on fair power outage schedules
During the Government's meeting on May 21, a decision was made to draft a government resolution on fair schedules of power outages for household consumers. This task was entrusted to the Ministry of Energy and Ukrenergo.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal notes that such a document will also contain a list of critical infrastructure facilities that require priority power supply. After that, the order of distribution of the maximum capacity between household consumers and businesses that are not on this list will be developed.
The state is constantly working to provide critical infrastructure facilities with alternative means of generation. A priority is to provide autonomous power supply to educational institutions.
Particular attention is paid to vocational education institutions, as this is the only way to continue high-quality offline training. Currently, there are 606 vocational education institutions in Ukraine and 1417 generators. Therefore, the main task of the Ministry of Education and local authorities is to find and provide the necessary resources for the operation of these generators.
Denys Shmyhal emphasizes that the situation with the energy sector is extremely difficult. After a series of Russian shelling, 8 GW of power was lost, which is why Ukraine has to import record volumes of electricity from Europe. The maximum technical capacity for imports is 1.7 GW. That is, even with imports, we are not able to cover the losses from the occupier's shelling. Therefore, it is simply impossible to stabilize the situation without hourly power outages for household consumers and businesses.
The Head of Government said that Volodymyr Zelenskyy had given the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, local authorities and energy companies clear tasks to intensively restore generation and distribution networks, maximize energy savings and establish communication with society.
Denys Shmyhal once again expressed his gratitude to everyone who is responsible for saving electricity, because this is the only way light can overcome darkness!
We remind you! In the context of a full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian economy suffers unprecedented losses almost every day.
