The Ukrainian parliament has registered a draft law that will allow the legalisation of international defence companies. They will also be able to operate abroad. 

Despite the fact that companies will be able to operate abroad, they will still pay taxes to the Ukrainian budget.

Why do they want to legalise military companies?

The authors of the draft law say that military companies are needed to:

- increasing the number of military personnel in Ukraine;

- the need for rapid response teams of experienced combatants;

- the need for additional budget revenues;

- increasing the number of jobs in Ukraine;

- the social factor (lack of jobs for men, proliferation of unlicensed weapons, adaptation of the military, etc.)

What exactly will military companies do?

The document says that such companies will be able to provide defence services, including training, tactical training, intelligence, escorting, ensuring the security of individuals and legal entities, protecting property and performing other tasks.

Defence companies can also provide services to individuals (e.g., personal protection, protection of facilities abroad) and international investors. According to the parliamentarians, a defence company outside Ukraine could ensure the security and smooth operation of any enterprise established with foreign investment.

The parliamentarians believe that the creation of military companies will increase jobs in Ukraine. The idea is to establish permanent deployment points or bases for defence companies in Ukraine. In other words, according to the authors of the bill, this could create additional jobs in localities.

Private military companies are a common practice

As you know, many countries around the world use the services of private military companies. For example, in the UK, they emerged in the late 1960s, and now they are popular in the US and the occupying country of russia. The kremlin authorities have used and continue to use private military companies in the war against Ukraine.
