Due to the constantly high level of migration, German districts have warned of limited capacity to accept new refugees. This was stated by the president of the German Association of Districts (DLT) Reinhard Sager, Welt reports.

Some districts and municipalities in the country are overcrowded due to constant migration. This leads to increased problems on the ground, and therefore local authorities are no longer eager to accept refugees from Ukraine.

Germany does not want to accept Ukrainian refugees: what is known

"Several districts and municipalities are overcrowded due to permanent and illegal migration. Integration of all people is becoming increasingly impossible. The problems on the ground are only growing," said Reinhard Sager, president of the German Association of Districts (DLT).

In this regard, districts are no longer willing to accept refugees from Ukraine.

"With all the important solidarity with Ukraine, we wonder whether so many people from a country under attack by russia need to come to us," Sager said.

It is known that Germany provides asylum to more than 1.2 million Ukrainians. For example, the state of Baden-Württemberg alone has twice as many Ukrainian refugees as the whole of France.

In addition, the politician suggested "providing safe housing in western Ukraine," as previously expressed by Interior Minister Nancy Feather.

"Perhaps Poland would be ready to accept more Ukrainian refugees with the support of the EU," Zager said.

Although the number of asylum seekers is decreasing, "a real change in the trend" is not expected. In addition, despite the federal government's promises, there is little likelihood of a significant increase in deportations.

"Chancellor Olaf Scholz's announcement that the state would 'finally deport people en masse' was nothing more than a bitterly bitter pill, because it didn't work," Sager said.

On behalf of the districts, he called for "consistent protection of Germany's borders as long as the EU's external borders remain so permeable" to prevent migrants from entering the country without the prospect of asylum. He also proposed a "broad political debate" on migration.
