On Thursday, 21 March, a senior NATO official, the Chairman of the Alliance's Military Committee, Rob Bauer, paid an unannounced visit to Ukraine. This is his first visit to Kyiv since the start of the full-scale war. We will tell you what this is about and whether it is a signal of the country's rapprochement with the Alliance.
Bauer himself commented on his visit to Ukraine as follows: "My visit - the first NATO military delegation to visit Ukraine since the large-scale invasion - is a testament to the fact that NATO and Ukraine are closer than ever."
Bauer also spoke at the Kyiv Security Forum. He thanked for the opportunity to visit Ukraine in person and meet with the Ukrainian political and military leadership.
"Every day we are getting closer, more compatible. Together we are doing everything to ensure that Ukraine becomes a member of our Alliance. The Swedish flag will not be the only blue and yellow flag at NATO headquarters," the NATO official said.
What else did Bauer say?
During his speech at the Kyiv Security Forum, the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee analysed the situation at the front and said that Kyiv needs to conduct additional mobilisation in Ukraine to continue fighting the occupiers.
"You need not only grenades, you need people to replace the dead and wounded. And that means mobilisation," Bauer said.

NATO believes in Ukraine's victory in the war
Bauer warned against excessive pessimism about Ukraine's ability to win the war and called for continued support for Kyiv.
"The only thing you need... is our help. NATO member states and many other countries around the world have provided unprecedented support to Ukraine, and it has really made a difference. But Ukraine needs even more support," said the head of the NATO Military Committee.
He also believes that the Ukrainian military has radically changed many aspects of modern warfare.
NATO is ready for war with russia
According to Bauer, if the Alliance has to fight the russian army today, you have to fight with what you have. Here, the NATO representative probably responded to many analytical materials in the Western media, which recently wrote that if it comes to a war between russia and NATO, Western countries will not be ready for it, especially if the United States does not support them.

We remind you! Emmanuel Macron, who is the president of France, one of the most armed NATO countries, has recently been speaking out about russia's aggression. While he used to be more loyal to putin, he is now ready to send his troops to Ukraine.
