The migrant crisis in the United States has been going on for months, but the decision of Texas Governor Greg Abbott to restrict the access of the Federal Border Patrol to the US-Mexico border and install barbed wire fences added new momentum to the conflict.

Political squabbles around Texas: what do the authorities say?

Washington did not approve of the governor's decision, and on January 22, the US Supreme Court upheld the federal government's right to remove the fences and allowed them to cut the wires at the border. But in response, Abbott said he would continue to erect barriers, and National Guard forces from at least 10 states were sent to help him. At the same time, according to Politico, on Thursday, January 25, 25 Republican governors from different states supported Texas, saying that the Biden administration "has neglected its responsibilities to the states under the Constitutional compact, so Texas has every legal justification to protect the sovereignty of our states and country." 

Instead, Democrats are demanding that the President of the United States take a tougher stance on this issue. The White House is also trying to hold Greg Abbott accountable, in particular by setting up barriers and arresting thousands of migrants.

It is important to note that former President Donald Trump has also joined the conflict, calling for the deployment of the National Guard to Texas, thereby inciting even more Republicans. Thus, using this issue, he is trying to increase his presidential ratings.

Why did the migrant crisis happen in the US and what does Ukraine have to do with it?

Immigration rules in the United States need to be reformed, but the bill that would regulate this issue is stuck in Congress. They have not been able to agree on it for almost two months. This is primarily due to the fact that this bill provides for the expansion of powers for the US president, as well as continued financial support for Ukraine.

Republicans are preventing its adoption, in particular, by demanding a stricter migration policy. At the same time, some representatives of the House noted that the border security agreement, which includes funding for Ukraine, has no chance of being approved. A corresponding statement was made in a letter by Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson.

How is russia manipulating the issue of war in the United States?

Yes, some media outlets have already begun to compare the current events to the US Civil War. However, all of them have a russian trace, as russia is trying to manipulate the domestic political crisis in the United States in order to increase instability and prevent Ukraine from receiving funding. 

A report by the American Institute for the Study of War notes that all the statements about the conflict between Texas and the United States are likely part of a targeted russian information campaign.

In addition, russia not only makes loud statements about the war, but also emphasizes that Texas is allegedly trying to secede from the United States. However, this is legally impossible, as there is simply no such mechanism and states do not have the right to unilaterally secede from the federal state. Moreover, none of the Republicans who supported Texas made any relevant statements, and the Republican Party does not support this issue in general.
