Lauri Laenemets, the Minister of the Interior of Estonia, answered the question about the extradition of men with military service who live in Estonia to Ukraine. 

 According to him, there is currently no necessary mechanism that would comply with the principles of international law for this type of transfer. The official said this on his Facebook page.

The minister expressed his readiness to extradite its citizens liable for military service to Ukraine, but emphasized that such a step requires a legal decision at the government level. 

In his extended statement, he emphasized the importance of Ukrainians living in Estonia having confidence that their rights will be protected and that there will be no attempts to force them to the front or deprive them of their rights.

Mr. Läänemets determined that there is currently no possibility of extradition of persons liable for military service to Ukraine in accordance with international law. He emphasized the need for a separate agreement between the two countries and a decision at the government level to carry out this type of transfer.

The Minister concluded his statement by emphasizing the importance of sending a clear message to Ukrainians living in Estonia that the country will not only not expel them, but will also protect their rights and try to avoid any actions that violate the principles of dignity and security.
