Recently, a study was conducted in Poland to calculate the amount of money that foreigners spend in local stores. The analysis was carried out by the Gremi Personal think tank and was based on payments made with bank cards during the second quarter of 2023. How much do Ukrainians spend in Poland and what amounts are involved is described in the article below.

How much do Ukrainians and citizens of other countries spend in Poland?

According to the report of the Central Statistical Office of Poland, foreigners spent a total of about PLN 11.7 billion in the second quarter of 2023, which is equal to UAH 97.3 billion. 

The Germans spent the most money - PLN 4.76 billion (UAH 39.6 billion) - 51.8%. 

The second place was taken by Ukrainians, who spent 1.77 billion zlotys (14.73 billion hryvnias) - 19.3% of all foreigners' expenses. It is noted that this amount exceeds the costs for the same period last year by 300 million zlotys (2.5 billion hryvnias).

Citizens of the Czech Republic (13.5%), Slovakia (8.2%) and Lithuania (4.4%) left even less of their own money in Poland. 

Experts note that the large amount of money spent by Ukrainians is based on the fact that Ukrainians are one of the largest groups of foreigners in Poland. It is expected that by the end of the year, spending by Ukrainian citizens in Poland will only increase. This is attributed to the return of a large number of people from holidays and preparations for the Christmas holidays. 

However, closer to spring, the level of spending by Ukrainians should decrease, as a large number of people go home in the spring or leave for Western Europe.

"Most Ukrainians in Poland work, pay taxes, and contribute to the Polish budget. According to forecasts for 2023, at least PLN 6 billion in taxes from Ukrainians will go to the Polish budget. Given the number of employed Ukrainians, Poland's economy is highly dependent on Ukrainians and receives much more than it spends," comments Anna Dzobolda, Director of Recruitment at Gremi Personal.
