The Ukrainian army continues its counteroffensive in the south and east of the country. Despite the criticism of some Western politicians, the Ukrainian armed forces have already liberated part of the occupied territory and broken through the first line of russian defense in the south. However, to take control of the settlements near the Sea of Azov, Ukrainian soldiers need to perform many complex operations. How much time does the Ukrainian Armed Forces have before the cold weather arrives and whether the fighting will continue in the winter, we will analyze below.
As you know, spring and summer are considered to be the main periods for combat operations, as the weather allows soldiers and military equipment to maneuver on the battlefield during these seasons. In the fall, closer to winter, the weather still makes its own adjustments.
According to US General Mark Milley, it will be much harder for Ukraine to maneuver in cold conditions. He noted that it is too early to say that the Ukrainian counteroffensive has not brought the expected results, but added that Ukraine is "making very steady progress across the russian front lines."
How much time does the Ukrainian army have before the cold weather sets in?
Milley believes that the Ukrainian army has some time left, probably about 30-45 days of battle-worthy weather.
Meanwhile, Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate, also believes that it will become more difficult to fight closer to winter, but he emphasizes that the offensive against the russians will continue even during the cold and wet weather at the end of the year.
"The fighting will continue one way or another. It is harder to fight in cold, damp and mud. The fighting will continue. The counteroffensive will continue," Budanov said at a meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES).

Is Ukraine ready for a war of attrition?
As you know, Ukrainian and Western officials have repeatedly said that the fighting has entered the phase of a "war of attrition." This thesis was also commented on by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who said that he and his team must be prepared for a long war.
In a recent interview with The Economist, he noted that russian dictator putin "does not understand that he will lose in a long war." Because "it doesn't matter that he is supported by 60% or 70% of russians" - "his economy will lose."
This opinion is shared not only by the Ukrainian leader, but also by the Chief of the British Defense Staff, Admiral Tony Radakin.
First of all, Radakin is sure that "Ukraine will win and russia will lose" this war. He explains this by saying that russia's original plan was to "subjugate Ukraine and bring it under its control," but this did not happen.
As for the war of attrition, the British admiral added that Ukraine is making progress in the struggle to regain its territory, having regained 50% of the land seized by russia.
Ukraine's progress is also due to the fact that the international community has "applied economic and diplomatic pressure, and russia is suffering from it," he said.
The fact that the russian dictator is in a "state of despair" is evidenced by the alliance between russia and the DPRK, which, according to Western media, has agreed to supply ammunition to the russian army for the war against Ukraine.
We remind you! In recent weeks, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have made significant progress in certain areas of the front, particularly in Zaporizhzhia region and in the Bakhmut sector. Read here how the West is reacting to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' advance and whether there are any changes in the attitude of Ukraine's partners to the counteroffensive.
