Unity is the key to a stable socio-political situation within the state, as well as an important factor that even affects the course of the war. After all, internal strife and the split in society inevitably affect all sectors of the country's life, especially in the context of a large-scale russian invasion.

Thus, in the framework of the sociological research of the Rating Group "Perceptions of Patriotism and the Future of Ukraine", Ukrainians were asked about the most important factors that, in their opinion, can unite and, conversely, divide Ukrainian society in times of war.

What unites Ukrainian society the most: survey results

Based on the survey results, a rating of factors that unite Ukrainians in times of war was compiled:

- Victories of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - 65% of respondents think so;

- rebuilding the country - 49%;

- helping each other - 40%;

- economic growth - 30%;

- language - 25%;

- accession to the EU/NATO - 20%;

- political unity - 15%;

- culture - 13%;

- history - 9%;

- return of refugees home - 4%;

- religion - 4%;

- sports victories - 1%.

In addition, sociologists note that for those Ukrainians who are on the territory of Ukraine, the most influential factor in unification is the victories of the Armed Forces, while for internally displaced persons and refugees who have received temporary protection abroad, the most important factors are reconstruction, mutual assistance, culture, and returning home.

The youngest respondents were more likely to choose culture and mutual assistance. Young and middle-aged people - reconstruction and economic growth. The oldest category of citizens mentioned the victories of the Armed Forces, language, EU/NATO membership, and political unity.

For russian-speaking Ukrainians, the most influential factor was economic growth. Those who speak two languages or only ukrainian more often chose the victories of the Armed Forces and accession to the EU/NATO.

Factors that, in the opinion of Ukrainians, lead to the division of society

Ukrainians identified the following as the biggest threats that may contribute to the division of society

- political conflicts - 62% of respondents said so;

- mutual accusations - 59%;

- economic crisis - 35%;

- lack of reconstruction, massive migration of Ukrainians abroad, refusal to join the EU/NATO - 20-22%;

- defeats of the Armed Forces, language - 18-19%;

- religion - 12%;

- history and culture - 1-2%.

Ukrainians living on the territory of Ukraine see the greatest threat in the mass migration of compatriots abroad and the defeat of the Armed Forces. For internally displaced persons and refugees abroad, the lack of reconstruction has become a factor. Mutual accusations and language are the biggest triggers for refugees abroad and russian-speaking Ukrainians.

At the same time, residents of Donbas are more likely to cite mutual accusations as the main reason, residents of the West are more likely to be concerned about differences in religious views, and residents of Galicia are more likely to be concerned about language.

The full-scale russian invasion has highlighted many sharp corners of Ukrainian society, but despite constant provocations from russia, stress and threats, Ukrainians remain united, and the level of patriotism within the country is at its highest level since Ukraine's independence.
