According to Marchenko, the problem of the economy is caused by the large number of Ukrainians seeking asylum in other countries.

In particular, the biggest loss for Ukraine is not only the economic aspect, but also the loss of human potential. That is why the return of migrants home is becoming an extremely important goal for the government.

According to the NBU, the funds of Ukrainian citizens abroad are estimated at about $2 billion a month. This money is being "washed out" of the Ukrainian economy and invested in the economies of the countries that have accepted refugees.

There is also the problem of remote work, when some citizens receive a salary in Ukraine and spend it abroad where they live. This also leads to a decrease in revenues to the Ukrainian budget.

Will Ukraine fight for the return of refugees?

Minister Marchenko sees the solution to the problem in creating conditions for the safe return of Ukrainians home and creating employment opportunities, which will further strengthen the country's economy.

According to the Ministry of Economy, about 6.2 million Ukrainians are currently living abroad.

It is worth noting that the war unleashed by russia has provoked the largest wave of refugees in Europe since World War II. According to sociologists, since February 24, 2022, 8.6 million Ukrainians have left for other countries. 

At the same time, according to UN estimates, this figure is 8.2 million people, of whom more than 5 million are officially registered under European protection programs.
