The vast majority of Ukrainians plan to build their lives in Ukraine. This is evidenced by the latest survey conducted by the civil network "OPORA". At the same time, most Ukrainians feel hopeful about the future of the country.

So, what moods prevail among Ukrainians, what they consider to be the main threats to the country, and what problems Ukraine risks facing in post-war reconstruction are described in our article.

By the way, despite the ongoing war, Ukraine and its partners are already actively working to rebuild the cities destroyed by russia. Read more about the countries with which Ukraine cooperates the most and how the world is helping to restore the damaged infrastructure here.

How many Ukrainians see their future in Ukraine?

According to the survey, 89% of Ukrainians would like to build their lives in Ukraine. However, when asked about the future of the country, the respondents' opinion is not so unanimous. Thus, 59% of respondents are hopeful about Ukraine's prospects, 42% are anxious, and 33% are optimistic.

At the same time, sociologists note that optimism and hope for a better future have reached such high levels for the first time since the Revolution of Dignity, despite the full-scale invasion of russia.

In addition, according to the Ukrainians surveyed, the main threats for the near future, in addition to the deaths caused by russia's armed aggression, are rising prices for essential goods and loss of income.

The priorities of post-war reconstruction are as follows: restoration of the economy, energy and other civilian infrastructure, housing, and ensuring the security of citizens. In addition, one of the most frequent responses of Ukrainians was the fight against corruption. Read more about what Ukrainians consider to be the most important in the period of post-war reconstruction here.

However, what are the challenges of post-war reconstruction, given that Ukraine is the largest country in Europe by area and that hundreds of thousands of buildings, including critical infrastructure and kilometers of roads, have been destroyed, and some cities have been completely destroyed by the russian army.

What are the main challenges of post-war reconstruction in Ukraine?

According to preliminary UN estimates, at least $411 billion will be needed to rebuild the country. However, financial investments are not the main problem, as the actual rebuilding of cities and infrastructure requires enormous human and material resources.

Shortage of labor and qualified specialists

Even before the full-scale invasion began, the construction industry had experienced some stagnation due to the outflow of workers to European countries. This was primarily due to the fact that the EU offered higher salaries and better working conditions than Ukraine. Thus, at this stage, it is clear that for effective post-war reconstruction, the state must address the problem of the lack of qualified specialists, in particular by reforming the current legislation to encourage workers.

Lack of construction materials and production capacity

Today, the Ukrainian construction materials market has shrunk significantly. There are no official statistics on this issue, but it is known that a large number of companies are operating at half-strength, and some of them have ceased to exist altogether. As a result, the market is already experiencing a significant increase in prices and a shortage of certain materials, including glass, rebar and insulation materials.

Although construction companies are currently affected by low demand, disrupted logistics and higher resource costs, the main problems in the post-war reconstruction will be a lack of labor, high tax rates and a lack of affordable government loans. This means that this area also needs to be reformed in the near future, as the lack of jobs is already acute, and the rebuilding of infrastructure requires materials right now.

The problems described above are not only the main challenges of actual reconstruction, but also factors that directly affect the recovery of Ukraine's economy. After all, reforms will not only stimulate the construction sector but also increase budget revenues and, accordingly, keep a significant part of the funds within the state.

So, we believe in victory and work together to build a new, strong and independent Ukraine!

We remind you! The majority of Ukrainians believe that all russians are responsible for the war, but at the same time, they sincerely believe in the victory over the enemy and show incredible support for the army. Read how many Ukrainians are ready to compromise with russia and how many are ready to fight until the cherished Victory in our previous article.
