Poland continues to be one of the most popular countries for Ukrainian refugees. In particular, according to a new study, "Ukrainian Citizens in the Polish Labor Market. New Challenges and Prospects" by the EWL Migration Platform, the EWL Foundation and the Center for East European Studies at the University of Warsaw, the number of Ukrainians who moved to Poland with children has increased almost 5 times.

Ukrainians with children in Poland: statistics 

As of 2021, the share of Ukrainians who came to Poland with children was 11%. However, recent studies have shown that today we can observe a rapid increase in the number of Ukrainian refugees with children in Poland: in 2023, the figure was 50%. 

This implies that half of the Ukrainian citizens who arrived in Poland came with children. 

It is noted that Poland has become home not only to people fleeing the war in their homeland (66%), but also to economic migrants (40%).

What kind of education system do Ukrainians in Poland choose for their children? 

Among Ukrainian citizens currently living in the country, almost a third choose the Polish education system for their children. 38% of respondents indicated that their children study at both Ukrainian and Polish educational institutions. 27% of respondents choose exclusively Ukrainian educational institutions for their children. 

The survey among war refugees on children's education showed the same results. Namely, 32% of children from families who came to the country to escape the war choose Polish education. The same number of respondents choose the Ukrainian education system.

Speaking about Ukrainian citizens who migrated to Poland before the war, the vast majority of supporters of the Polish education system or a combination of it with the Ukrainian one (32%). Only 22% of respondents said that their children study in Ukrainian educational institutions. 

"Parents of young Ukrainians are happy to enroll their children in Polish schools. This gives them an opportunity to help their children adapt to a new country thanks to their Polish peers. At the same time, many Ukrainians choose to study online in Ukrainian schools", - said Maria Kuzenko, Chief Operating Officer of the EWL Foundation.
