As early as October 20, 2022, Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned the world that russia was preparing a terrorist attack on the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, as russian terrorists had already mined the dam and the plant's interior. Moreover, russia already tried to blow up the dam on November 12, 2022, the day after the liberation of the right-bank Kherson region.
The Ukrainian government called on the world to stop the kremlin and make them understand that blowing up the dam would be tantamount to using weapons of mass destruction. However, the international community has not taken any steps to prevent the disaster. And today it is hard to imagine all the consequences that society will face.
How has the world reacted to the Kakhovka dam explosion?
Today we see only condemnation, anxiety and fear. No decisive action or new sanctions have been taken. Some Western media outlets, while reporting on the terrible disaster, accused Ukraine of undermining it. This is the narrative that the russian authorities are trying to promote. But they do not take into account a fundamental detail: the dam is designed in such a way that a missile strike or even nuclear weapons cannot destroy the dam. Damage to the integrity of the structure is possible only if it is mined from the inside.
And putin's main goal is clear: to prevent the offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. But, as it became known, the Ukrainian authorities took into account the enemy's insidious intentions, and therefore the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant will not prevent a counteroffensive and the liberation of Ukrainian territories.
However, why did putin give this order if by blowing up the dam russia literally shot itself in the foot, destroying the first line of defense and minefields throughout the left-bank Kherson region and leaving Crimea without fresh water?
Raising the stakes: preventing Ukraine's counteroffensive at all costs
Since the Kakhovka Dam was almost the only way, apart from the dilapidated Antonivsky Bridge, to transport heavy equipment and weapons, russia could not think of anything better than blowing up the hydroelectric power plant. In addition, according to some reports, large-scale battles have already begun downstream on the islands, forcing russia to leave the occupied territories.
However, according to experts, they did not take into account the power of the explosion and laid too much explosives, as they could not even save their own equipment and army. And now, if Ukraine starts to conduct even spot landings, they will not be able to repel them in an organized manner, because the only thing russia is doing now is trying to evacuate at least some of the forces that are left there.
So we see this attack as an act of putin's death throes in an attempt to do something to slow down the Ukrainian forces and delay the military action. Another "gesture of goodwill" is also possible, since they can no longer physically control the leftist bank of the Kherson region. We wrote about whether russia can afford to wage a multi-year war here.

Repeating history: putin is the successor to the bloody dictator Stalin
In August 1941, when Soviet troops were forced to retreat under pressure from the German army, the USSR authorities committed an act of terror by blowing up the Dnipro hydroelectric dam, which also served as a link between the left and right banks of the Dnipro. Neither the army nor the civilian population was warned about this, and thousands of people became victims of this disaster. Moreover, the Soviet government never took responsibility for the incident and blamed German troops for the explosion.
Today, we see a similar situation, as russia accuses Ukraine of the terrorist attack. Moreover, dozens of proofs have appeared online that russian troops were not prepared for the flooding and tried to escape on their own, as even all the boats stolen from Kherson were washed away in the Black Sea. The local population of the temporarily occupied left-bank Kherson region was also left without help, as the russian authorities did not announce an evacuation and left people to their fate.
Nuclear threat, ecocide, famine and human casualties: why russia is a terrorist state
All acts of terror committed by russia, including the blowing up of the Kakhovka dam, prove that russia is a terrorist country that sees no value in human lives and is ready to make any sacrifice to avoid losing on the path of its imperial ambitions. The consequences of the man-made disaster caused by russia will affect the whole world. And we are talking not only about the actual flooding of territories and human casualties, but also about the inevitable famine in other countries that will not be able to buy crops due to the inability to irrigate land in southern Ukraine and nuclear safety in the world, due to the lowering of the water level in the cooled pools at the largest in Europe Zaporizhzhya NPP.
So, we hope that world leaders will come to their senses and realize that fear is what russia wants and what we cannot allow under any circumstances. And the only way to free the world from russian terror is through Ukraine's victory and the actual destruction of the russian army in this horrific and unprecedented war.
We remind you, in 1996, Ukraine was made to believe that the world was tired of the terrible world war and refused to solve problems by force of arms. But as time has shown, this is an absolute lie. Read more about how and why Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons here.
