The Dutch city of Vlaardingen will soon have a huge modern residential complex for 1000 IDPs. "Mriya" is a new residential community that will become the largest center for Ukrainians in the country. We will tell you when the complex is scheduled to open later in the article.

Mriya shelter for Ukrainians in the Netherlands: what is known

Construction of Mriya began in the fall of 2022. This neighborhood will be complete with its own infrastructure specially designed for Ukrainian refugees. 

The complex is scheduled to open in the second half of August. Mriya is designed for 1000 residents and will be the largest residential complex for Ukrainians in the region.

It is emphasized that Ukrainians who settle in Mriya will have housing here for three years. That is, until the summer of 2026.

However, the issue of migration status remains unresolved. According to Taras Malyshevsky, Counselor at the Embassy of Ukraine in the Netherlands, temporarily displaced persons from Ukraine can currently be protected in the Netherlands only until March 4, 2024.

What is planned to be built for Ukrainians in the Mriya complex in the Netherlands?

Each apartment in Mriya will be equipped with all the necessary furniture. In addition, a school, a sports complex and playgrounds are being built on the territory.

Bicycle infrastructure is also planned, but parking lots will be located outside the residential area. Rotterdam can be reached from Vlaardingen by metro.

The Dream District is a pilot project implemented in cooperation with the municipality of Werdingen and the Rotterdam-Rijnmond region. This project reflects the efforts and commitment of the Dutch government and the public to create favorable conditions for Ukrainian refugees.

According to the latest estimates, there are more than 89,000 Ukrainian refugees in the Netherlands, and Mriya will be an important step in providing them with housing and support.

It is emphasized that this project demonstrates the hospitality and solidarity of the Netherlands towards Ukrainian refugees.
