Love is a sincere feeling that allows you to overcome any obstacles and troubles, makes you stronger and inspires you to win.

Feelings that arose on the front line are very different from love in the rear, because it is strength, protection, mutual help and huge support.

Even in such dark times, Ukrainians look for rays of light and fill themselves and others with true feelings - love.

Wedding at the front

Soldiers create families at the bases of their own units and simply on the front lines. Lovers come to defenders to support their other halves and even get married. The story of Dmitry and Svitlana began 10 years ago, but the couple decided to get married only after the start of the war. The celebration was organized just at the location of the Teroborona brigade, in which the groom serves, because during the war, the brothers became almost the closest people.

Father Ivan Mykhailyshyn, the chaplain, says that he has already conducted almost 20 such weddings in wartime conditions.

During this year, weddings were held even at checkpoints. When the war began, volunteers of the territorial defense of the city of Kyiv, Lesya and Valery had been together for almost 20 years and had a common 18-year-old daughter, but during all this time they did not find the right moment to get married. However, the war changed everything - in the first month of the full-scale invasion, the couple enrolled together in the Terrodefense, signed a contract, became servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and got married right at one of the checkpoints in Kyiv.

Stories of couples who met during the war

Many families were created by the war itself. People spend a lot of time together in difficult conditions, fall in love and create families. In war, relationships are real and open.

Military cook Iryna signed a contract and joined the ranks of the Armed Forces in 2019. Her beloved Maryan left to defend Ukraine in February 2022, and already in May he met his true love. She is from Lviv Oblast, he is from Ternopil Oblast, but fate brought them together where none of them could have imagined - in Donetsk Oblast. It is there that their story continues to this day.

The war also combines the fates of defenders and volunteers. Military serviceman Oleg defends Ukraine in Donetsk region. One day he turned to volunteer Oleksandra for help. The girl bought everything necessary for the defender, Oleg came personally to pick up the precious cargo. It was in this meeting that bright love at first sight was born between them. Beloved has become a real reliable rear for the hero and is sincerely waiting for him.

Foreign volunteers also fall in love during the war in Ukraine. Italian Julia Schiff joined the Foreign Legion of the Armed Forces and found love at the front. The 24-year-old fighter pilot is engaged to musician Victor "Wolf" Friedman, who is fighting in Ukraine after serving in the Israeli army. The guy offered his hand and heart from the stage at the metal band's concert in Dnipro.

The desire of people to create families in such a difficult time is the main indicator of faith in the future.

Both in grief and in joy - couples who went to war together

War not only creates new families, but also tests the strength of long marriages.

Alyona and Dmytro celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary this year. Together they are both in grief and in joy. The husband is a soldier, the wife started a military career in 2004 to be closer to her husband. When a full-scale war began, the man stood up for the defense of Ukraine, his beloved left with him and was transferred to the same Poltava unit where Dmytro serves.

During the full-scale invasion, love brought together a lot of couples. In such difficult conditions, people understand the value of this highest feeling and support of a loved one next to them. Love will defeat evil and shine with new colors in free Ukraine.
