Seit Beginn der umfassenden Invasion wurden Zehntausende von Menschen als vermisst gemeldet. Die überwiegende Mehrheit von ihnen wurde gefunden. Allerdings sind etwa 23.000 Personen weiterhin offiziell als vermisst bestätigt aufgrund der Kampfhandlungen. The Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine has launched a Unified Register of Missing Persons, which has already begun its work. This registry will contain all known information about people who disappeared during the war.

Unified register of missing persons: what is known

The new registry will collect all known data on missing persons that can help in the search. It is also noted that the registry will include information on the presence or absence of a court decision to declare a person missing or to declare him or her dead. 

Within a month after the court decision, the relatives of the missing person will be able to obtain an extract from the register from the Department of Informatization of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, which will confirm the status of the missing person.

To receive the document, you need to submit a request and copies of documents proving the identity of the requestor and the degree of kinship with the missing person. 

They should be sent by mail to 10 Bohomoltsia St., Kyiv, Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, or by e-mail to pgmia@mvs.gov.ua. 

Please note! Data verification is carried out within 30 calendar days. 

The extract is sent to the e-mail address specified in the application or to the return postal address. After receiving it, the relatives of the missing person will be able to provide the document to the Pension Fund and apply for a survivor's pension for disabled family members.

Important! The inclusion of a person in the register is the only confirmation that a person is considered missing under special circumstances. However, the presence of a person's data in the register does not confirm their death or captivity. According to the ministry, the register is a fully secure database. Only certain officials will have access to it.
