On May 1, most information points for Ukrainian refugees in Estonia stopped working, including the information point at the Tallinn bus station at the end of April, and later in Tartu, Parnu and Jõhvi.

Why were information centers for Ukrainians in Estonia closed?

Information centers in Estonia were opened last spring. At that time, an average of more than 500 refugees arrived in the country every day. Since then, much fewer Ukrainians have applied for temporary protection status in the country, and people are also less likely to need temporary housing. In the last weeks of April, 45 people a week came to the information centers. On certain days, there were no visitors at all. Based on this, the Estonian Social Insurance Board decided to close the centers. If the number of refugees increases, the centers will reopen.

Where can I get social assistance in Estonia now?

Estonia will continue to provide consultations to refugees from Ukraine. General information is available here. 

In addition, refugees from Ukraine can contact the customer service bureau of the Police and Border Guard Board or the Social Insurance Office for advice.

Please note that if a person needs assistance, he or she will be sent to a place of temporary accommodation provided by the state.
