Die Frist für den vorübergehenden Schutz von Flüchtlingen aus der Ukraine in Polen steht kurz vor der Verlängerung. Lesen Sie mehr über die neuen Fristen und Updates für Ukrainer
The Polish Sejm has adopted amendments to the special law on assistance to refugees from Ukraine. According to them, temporary protection for Ukrainians will be extended after August 24, 2023.
What will change?
The new amendments guarantee the legal stay of Ukrainians in Poland until March 4, 2024.
Schoolchildren from Ukraine will be able to stay in the country even longer. Primary and secondary school students can study until August 31, 2024, and graduates taking exams - until September 30, 2024.
Please note! The relevant amendments have not yet entered into force. For this to happen, they must be approved by the Senate and then signed by the President.
At the same time, the amendments may not be adopted, but returned for reconsideration.
Are Ukrainians returning home from Poland?
Experts from the international company "Gremi Personal" have investigated how many Ukrainians plan to return home. More than 1000 refugees were interviewed in March 2023.
According to the latest research, 55% of respondents plan to return to Ukraine. Of these, 82% will come to Ukraine after the victory and only 6% this summer.
38% of respondents plan to stay in Poland even after the victory. According to the company's employees, this trend was influenced by the opening of Ukrainian companies willing to employ refugees. Another sad factor is that many people have nowhere to go back to.
Important! In order to leave Poland and retain the status of UKR, you need to register in the diia.pl application. For more information on how to travel with the application, please follow the link.
As you know, there are currently about 1.5 million Ukrainians with temporary protection status in Poland. We would like to add that 739 thousand Ukrainians are officially employed, according to the data published by the Social Insurance Office.
Do Poles welcome refugees from Ukraine?
In March, the Warsaw-based Center for Public Opinion Research (CBOS) conducted a study that showed that the attitude of Poles towards the war in Ukraine is changing. For example, 76% of Poles believe that the war threatens their security. It should be noted that in February, the number of people with this opinion was 3% less.
The number of Poles who believe that Ukraine should give up part of its territory to end the war has also increased. Currently, this figure is 30%, and in November it was 24%.
Those who are ready to help Ukrainians are still in the majority. 83% of respondents support refugees and have a positive attitude towards the actions of their government.
We remind you! A new Refugee Assistance and Support Center has recently opened in Warsaw. Read more about what services Ukrainians can use, as well as the address and contacts, in our article.
