What is a minijob in Germany?

A minijob is a part-time job or short-term employment. This format of work allows you to save social benefits and receive a salary at the same time.

There are two types of mini-jobs, which are based on either the amount of income or the number of hours worked:

• Earnings limit - your income must be less than 520 euros per month and no more than 6,240 euros per year (if you work every day);

• Short-time work - allowed to work up to 3 months (5 hours per week) or 70 working days (for employment less than 5 days per week).

Note that Germany provides minijob employees with social protection, for example, guarantees vacation.

Refugees can work two or more jobs at the same time. Here it is important to remember the monthly limits - earn less than 520 euros or work up to 3 months or 70 days. If you exceed these numbers, your employment will be average (Midijob).

How to avoid paying social contributions?

People with minimal employment are exempt from paying social contributions to the insurance fund. At the same time, all residents of Germany must have insurance, so you must take out a policy yourself.

Pension deductions are also not mandatory. Write a statement to the employer about the refusal to pay them. However, you can make these contributions in order to receive a pension in Germany in the future.

When calculating financial assistance from the Jobcenter, any cash receipts to the bank account are taken into account and the amount of the payment is reduced accordingly. You also can't keep the entire salary for yourself.

When applying for a minijob, remember the following - a person is allowed to leave 100 euros per month and 20% of the remaining amount.
