Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 480,000 Ukrainians have received the status of temporary protection in the Czech Republic. However, the permit that Ukrainians issued in 2022 is valid until March 31, 2023. How can refugees from Ukraine stay in the Czech Republic?

At the first stage, a Ukrainian must complete a preliminary registration for a visit to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is conducted exclusively online. Registration will open on January 30 and will last until March 31, 2023. The link to online registration will appear on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs as soon as it starts. In the online form, a Ukrainian must indicate the address of official residence in the Czech Republic, as well as personal and passport data.

How to extend temporary protection in the Czech Republic for those who do not have a foreign passport?

From February 24, 2022, many European countries, including the Czech Republic, granted entry permission and issued protection not only to Ukrainians who had a foreign passport, but also to those who had only an internal identity card.

The laws of the Czech Republic state that in order to extend the status of temporary protection, it is necessary to have a foreign passport, but in case of its absence, a Ukrainian can obtain a permit on the basis of a Ukrainian document. To do this, when filling out the online form, you need to indicate that you do not have a passport.

Importantly! When filling out the form, do not indicate the number of the Ukrainian document, because the application will be rejected, because this document is not in the register of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Czech Republic.

Where can Ukrainians get a foreign passport in the Czech Republic?

Ukrainians staying in the Czech Republic can issue a foreign passport at the Consulates of Ukraine. However, currently the number of people willing to receive the document is quite large, so the procedure may take a long time. Sometimes even the term of its production may be longer than the period of extension of temporary protection.

Also, please note that the laws of the Czech Republic oblige foreigners to report any changes to their personal data. Therefore, when you receive a foreign passport, you must notify the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Czech Republic. To do this, contact the Office of Migration Policy (OAMP) at your place of residence. If you did not have time to notify the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Czech Republic about issuing a new passport, then when filling out the online form, indicate that you do not have a passport.

Importantly! It is necessary to change the address of residence or obtain a foreign passport at least one week before registering for the extension of protection. This period is necessary for the changes to be synchronized with the country's registers.
