Lithuania has become a temporary home for many Ukrainians. But, as reported by the Migration Department, recently, Ukrainian migrants who are currently in Lithuania began to receive automatic notifications that their temporary residence permit in the country will expire on March 4, 2023.

How to extend a residence permit in Lithuania?

Ukrainians can extend their residence permit in Lithuania on the basis of work or study, as well as in refugee status.

If you are working or studying in Lithuania and your temporary residence permit is about to expire, you have the right to submit an application to the Lithuanian Migration Department.

With this application, you will be granted a temporary residence permit in the country based on your work or studies. Such a permit will give you the right to stay legally in Lithuania for 2 years.

It is also noted that at the end of this period, you will be able to extend it for a longer period.

How to extend the permit to stay in Lithuania in the status of temporary protection?

If you do not plan to stay in Lithuania for a long time or have no reason to stay there based on work or study, you can extend your stay in the country as a war refugee. In this case, you will be granted temporary protection. To do this, you need to contact the Migration Department, namely the Customer Service Department, no earlier than January 2023.

According to the Migration Department, in December 2022, detailed information on the procedure for extending temporary residence permits for refugees from the war in Ukraine will be made public.
